On the occasion of the opening of Mozambique’s Ministry of Interior XXXII coordination council, President Nyusi announces the launch of the much-anticipated e-Visa platform.
The platform (evisa.gov.mz) is an online Visa application system that promises to facilitate the pre-approval of selected Visa types. According to the presentation, travelers looking to obtain selected visa types, namely border visa, crew visa, sport and culture visa, humanitarian assistance visa, business visa, investment visa, and tourism visa can apply directly on the site.
Applicants need to fill up a form and upload the required documents according to the type of visa they are applying for and submit the request in order to get an answer within 5 business days. The answer, in case of approval, comes via email in a PDF format displaying a barcode to be read by the immigration officer at the port of entry where a physical visa will be printed and attached to the traveler’s passport upon payment of the respective fee.
The system allows for third-party applications, facilitating the work for travelers applying as a group to enter the country.
The eVisa is part of measure 13 of the PAE, an economic stimulus package launched by the President last August. The measure aims to improve Mozambique’s business environment while increasing the country’s competitiveness in the attraction of foreign direct investment, leisure, and business tourism.
A second part of the measure will see citizens of selected countries with low risk of immigration added to Mozambique’s visa exemption list in the coming months.
The measure also will grant investment visas with longer periods to foreigners holding investments in Mozambique. The e-Visa platform is expected to contribute to the number of visitors entering the country.
